Need a book to read?

You would think that since I am on summer vacation I would post more. However that is not the case. It is probably because I am catching up on reading and sleeping! :)

In case you are looking for something to read, I recommend Bitter is the New Black by Jennifer Lancaster. It is non-fiction and just very hilarious. It is a laugh out loud kind of story and very hard to put down.

Rosie recommended it to me and know I have have finished the second book written by her called Bright Lights, Big Ass. I have to read the third book written by her, Such a Pretty Fat.

So if you are looking for something to make you laugh, try Bitter is the New Black! (Dang I sound like some commercial!)

Elkhart Farmer's Market

I went to the Elkhart Farmer's Market today for one purpose...jumbo jellybeans. They are my dad's favorite and he has been talking about how he needs to go to Wakarusa and get some jumbo jellybeans.

However I did not have to make the drive to Wakarusa but only to the Elkhart Farmer's Market because they have a booth there. I also wandered around the market and oogled at the Amish made tables and goodies on the second floor.

I did happen to find this nice little table runner. My original purpose was to place it on my new hutch in the porch. However I have found that it looks quite nice on my table. So I am thinking of going back and getting another one that matches the dining room and placing it on the table and the one I got today on the hutch in the porch. Only due to the fact that the colors would go better on the porch. Plus it the rectangle one was only $8! What a bargain!

So at the moment Mr. Gnome (who is also part of my dad's Father Day present) is hanging out on the table with a nice comfort under his feet. :-)

Pretty Flowers

I am very proud of how this flower pot turned out:

Interview

This past week I went on an interview with a school that is literally five minutes from my house. The principal was really nice and explained that he was being proactive and getting a list of names of people that he could hire in case the corporation didn't have anyone to fill the positions at his school.

While going through my resume, he told me that since I did not have any experience teaching the Balanced Literacy Program (the reading program that the school system uses) my chances of getting hired are pretty slim. Gee thanks!

He explained that since his school is a Title 1 school that he needed to see results right away and did not have time to teach the Balanced Literacy Program to the new hires that did not have knowledge of the program.

He did offer to put my name down on a list of instructional assistants. I asked him what the pay rate was for this type of position and he said it was $11 to 12 an hour with benefits. I told him that I would be interested but I really need a teachign position because I am at the moment the only wage earner in the family.

So who knows where the heck that leaves me. At the moment, I guess I am content staying at my school and teaching third grade. The only thing is that I am having some of the students that I had in second grade. Although I think I did a good job of splitting them up so I don't have as many behavior problems with certain "groups" of students.

So we shall see what happens.

The Finished Hutch

I finally decided to finish the rest of the hutch in between the rain showers this week:

Now I just have to figure out what else to place on the shelves because the bottom part is pretty much filled up! I LOVE extra storage.

How I Spent My Day

While Tony was cleaning out the garage at his house last summer, there was a hutch in there that I had wanted. My parents took it home to their house and that is where it sat until last night. I finally had the time to pay attention to this potentially cute piece of furniture.

However, it dawns on me after looking at the pictures that I took that I really didn't take a picture of what it looked like together. It had multi-colored drawer knobs and the one door did not close all of the way.

This is the original back of the cabinet and it was falling apart. Jay took the back off. He has decided that he loves to destroy things. :)

We went off to Lowe's to get a new piece of backing cut for us and all of the appropriate hinges and knobs and a new paint color.
It was the perfect day to paint because the sun was not too hot and the wind was just right. It took less than three hours to get it sanded, painted, and put back together.

Here Jay is attaching the new back to the hutch.
After our three hours of work, here is the final product. I am in love with it!

Now I just have to decide if I would like to place the top part on top of the bottom part. If I decide to do this, I have to sand and paint it. In the end it might just be worth it! :)
